Content is anything that you create, share, post or otherwise transmit that another person could see, hear or otherwise experience in the AlterEgo Freebie Store, General Stores or Marketplace.

All Content must be assigned a rating in accordance with the Guidelines below or, for AlterEgo, as Adult Content as further defined in the AlterEgo Maturity Ratings Guidelines. Bundled Content with individually-rated components that fall under two or more permitted categories must be given the most restrictive rating applicable.

General Content is content that is suitable for all ages. It may contain mild violence, mild language, and informational or educational content.

Moderate Content is non-explicit content that is generally suitable for users over the age of eighteen (18). It may contain some violence, strong language, and mildly sexual content.

Except such Adult Content as may be permitted in AlterEgo, Prohibited Content (as further described below) may not be shared, posted or otherwise transmitted through our service under any circumstances.

Examples of Prohibited Content include:

  • Content involving illegality, such as piracy, criminal activity, terrorism, obscenity, child pornography, gambling, and illegal drug use.
  • Infringing or unauthorized content, such as content that you did not create or do not have permission to use.
  • Cruel or hateful content that could harm, harass, promote or condone violence against, or that is primarily intended to incite hatred of, animals, or individuals or groups based on race or ethnic origin, religion, nationality, disability, gender, age, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity.
  • Intensely violent or graphic content that could be construed as primarily intended to be shocking, sensational, or disrespectful.
  • Sexually explicit content.
  • Content that promotes or could be construed as primarily intended to evade limitations on Prohibited Content.

We may remove any Content or listing, or change any Content rating that we, in our sole discretion, determine violates these Guidelines. We may restrict or delete Content, or suspend or ban your account(s), if we, in our sole discretion, determine that you or your account(s) have violated this policy.

Frequently asked questions

*in this articles there are some reference and links directly to Second Life by Linden Lab)

What does "advertises or publicly promotes" mean?

The maturity ratings distinguish between publicly-promoted adult content, required to be on Adult regions, and non-public adult content, such as private homes with a sex bed, that can be located on Moderate land.

Adult activities cannot be advertised or publicly promoted on Moderate land. Such activity must occur privately, behind closed doors on Moderate land (see below), and is forbidden on General land. These restrictions apply regardless of whether the parcel has hidden avatars.

Advertising for AlterEgo Grid or Hyperica search using adult words clearly requires being on Adult land. Other examples of advertising or publicly-promoting include renting signs inworld, listing on events, buying ads in newspapers, or distributing flyers or notecards to passersby.

Private invitations to friends are not considered advertising or promoting. Inviting everyone in a small private group that you control is not considered advertising. However, inviting everyone in a public group can be considered a promotional effort.

What does "behind closed doors" mean?

Adult activity on Moderate land must be conducted "behind closed doors," meaning that you must make every reasonable effort to ensure that the parcel is private. This means:

  • Allow only a group or specific individuals access to the parcel. If it is group-access only, the group must not be freely open to join.
  • Hide avatars (turn off avatar visibility) for the parcel.
  • Enclose the area behind walls or other visual barriers.

Can a parcel be not entirely Adult?

There are several ways a parcel can be partly Adult and partly Moderate:

  • Mixed content in a public area: for example, a store that sells a variety of items, some of which are adult in nature, but those are not advertised explicitly or provided for public adult usage on the parcel. This would require a Moderate rating.
  • Mixed public and private use of a parcel: for example, a store at ground level which only sells non-adult items, and a private skybox above with restricted access (as described above), which contains sex furniture. The landing point is at the ground level store only. This would require a Moderate rating.
  • Mixed use by time: for example, a parcel that is normally a private residence, but occasionally advertises an adult event. This would require an Adult rating. If on Moderate land, the event must not be advertised and must be kept behind closed doors.

Is simple nudity without sex Adult?

Depending on context, nudity may not require an Adult rating. For example all of the following could be rated Moderate:

  • A nude beach without sexual activity.
  • Skin vendors showing a nude skin to display the product.
  • Nude art that is not sexual.
  • Strip clubs that do not use adult words in search or host sex furniture.

Depending on the context, exposed genitalia may not be considered Adult. For example:

  • Hanging out at a nude beach would be fine.
  • Walking around pants-less on the mainland could be inappropriate.

Non-sexualized depictions of nudity are Moderate NOT Adult.

What about strip clubs?

Strip clubs in general are Moderate. However, they are Adult if they:

  • Use adult keywords in listings and in search.
  • Have sex balls and backroom sex areas.

What words are filtered in search?

We do not provide a full list of filtered adult words. However, anyone can test individual words on the Hyperica search page or with inworld search. Certain words are always filtered, regardless of maturity setting; additional words are filtered when the adult checkbox is not selected.

Are child avatars allowed on Adult regions?

Yes, child avatars are allowed in Adult regions, as long as they are controlled by a person who has verified themselves to be at least 18 years old. However, the avatar should not be in proximity to sexual content or activity; and must is prohibiting sexual ageplay.

Since Adult regions by design will often contain sexual content, child avatars should use caution in visiting Adult regions.

What about profiles?

Content in profiles must be General, and must obey the Terms of Service and Community Standards.

Registering on the site for the first time will not activate an In World account for AlterEgo Grid, the registrations are separate, this to allow those who already have an InWorld account to associate it with an account on the site.

*Please Note that it is not mandatory to register on the portal to have an InWorld account on AlterEgo Grid grid, you can also just register your avatar via Diva WiFi, where you can also manage your inventory and more.

By registering through the AlterEgo Grid portal (not Diva Wifi), you can then access the Forum section, you can comment on events or publish content (when the site is finished), you can also: Register a new InWorld account directly linked to your account on the portal, or associate this account with your InWorld avatar.

First of all, create an account for the portal, you will recive a verification email with your access data and a link for activation. Then log in to the portal, and in the "Account" section register your avatar in AlterEgo Grid. If you already have an avatar registered in AlterEgo Grid, simply click the "InWorld Account Activation" link at the bottom of the avatar registration form (thus skipping the fields for registering a new avatar), you will then proceed to the InWorld login and through the terminal, within 10 minutes, you can activate and link your accounts.

If you register an account to access the grid using this portal instead of "Diva WiFi" you will be InWorld a cloud and you will have to adjust your appearance by yourself, by registering an account through "Diva WiFi" you can choose the type of avatar. However, if you register your grid account here after registering your primary account on the portal, your two accounts will be automatically associated by the system.

Currently registering on the this portal and the account link allow you to view some features of the InWorld coem account, for example, see which friends are Online, and, in the near future, manage your profile, request a partnership, read offline messages and much more.
